YACR Young Ringers are also known as the Yorkshire Tykes. The group is open to all young people aged 18 or under from any of the YACR Branches. Minimum standard is to be able to control a bell in rounds unaided. Parents and adult helpers are welcome to come and help. The group is supervised by DBS checked adult ringers.
The Tykes meet each month (usually on the 3rd Sunday afternoon) and visit various Association Towers for a general practice and sometimes to ring quarter peals. The ringing is usually run by the young ringers themselves and is always aimed at what they wish to ring.
The Tykes also represent YACR in the Ringing World National Youth Contest (RWNYC) each year. We usually try to enter the method ringing section, and in the last couple of years have managed to enter a call changes team as well. On five occasions they have won the method ringing section, at Worcester in 2014, at Birmingham in 2017 then following a bit of a gap we have had a hat-trick of wins at London 2024, Birmingham 2025 and Nottingham 2026. We feel that the trophy belongs with us here in Yorkshire but can never afford to take our foot of the gas so the good work must continue onwards to Guildford 2027.

In July 2024 we celebrated our 10th Birthday by ringing at York Minster and holding a party tea at St Lawrence's, York. Over 60 people attended the event which was for all the current Tykes, ex-Tykes and our supporters.
In 2023 we entered the White Rose 12 bell contest for the first time at Ripon Cathedral, this was a great achievement for our young band. We entered the contest again on 5th October 2024 coming in an amazing 2nd place of the seven teams entered, overcoming some experienced 12 bell bands. And we hosted the contest at Bradford Cathedral in 2025.
If you have not attended a Tykes meeting yet and wish to do so please contact Jane Lynch for further information.
